Touch Me in the Morning

What is your favorite little touch in the Shenmue games? You know, like the small specific detail that blowed your mind the most.

I think I mentioned this in the other thread, for me it's how in Shenmue 2 when that airplane passes overhead the game will insist you pause your inexorable quest for revenge and enter a cut scene where Ryo will just gaze up at it. Mind blowing.

Cant make my mind out the 2.
( from shenmue 2 )
" i am not talkin to u !
"im talkin to the master ! - Ryo.
" she is the master" - hunhai
( camera pans up )

Or the stare down and up frm ryo and lan di on the roof.
( u can feel the tension )

Ryo taking off his shoes when he gets home. What other game would even think of doing that, let alone go to the trouble of actually including it?

Also the sunrise that you're never supposed to see but they programmed anyway, just because.

I also can now appreciate, having  both studied some Baji Quan (Xuiying's style) and Chen Tai Chi (Jianmin's style) how accurate they are portrayed in Shenmue. Just the fact that the Chen bit was specified was mind blowing for me to find out retrospectively. That exchange between Ryo and Jianmin is just brilliant in how accurate and believable it is. To my knowledge no other game, not even dedicated fighting games, have even mentioned Chen style Tai Chi, or  put forward such a well researched representation of Tai Chi in general.

Shenmue is a real martial artist's martial arts adventure game. And that's only one of it's many facets. Mind blowing

I dunno. Probably the fact that right from the start of the game, you can start opening drawers and closets and start looking around in your room. It's not just background scenery, but completely interactive.

I love that bit, Ive mentioned before that the storming of the Yellowhead Building is my favourite part of the game and by the time I got to the top I was so phsyced. I was ready to takeon LanDi there! The look is just cold but alsoshows a bit of respect for Ryo

For me, it was the fact that if you use cheats to travel back in time to the day your father died (not the actual cut scene, just a date hack), the weather actually does change from snow to rain. I was amazed by the fact that they included that, even though nobody was ever going to wander around on that date, AND the weather code isn't used by the opening cut scene.

It does have both snow and rain in the opening cut scene, but that's still properly amazing how they actually programmed it in all properly and everything.

Praying at the shrine at the home was always a nice touch.

Some great different comments.
Shenmue is everythin, if u really look into it, deep into the story, detail, etcs, also like when ryo dials a phone ( house phone) when u turn with his finger, the stiffness of the rotate.
So many great touches  :)
