Shenmue Creativity
« on: July 10, 2014, 06:55:11 PM »
I know we have a few very talented Shenmue fans in our midst. I love to see people's appreciation for Shenmue manifest itself in other mediums. So I was wondering, has anyone here made anything Shenmue-themed themselves, or have bought any homemade Shenmue-themed items?

I'll start.

My hobby is bead sprite art, which is making pixel art pictures out of plastic fuse beads. I have recently turned this hobby into a small side business, and am selling them on 1upbeads.etsy.com (cheap pop). I made myself a Ryo picture, based on the VMU icon from Shenmue.

I intend to make more of these, and fuse them all together to make a larger piece. All finished, I hope it to look like this:

I also recently commissioned a piece from Baboo Crafts, who makes amazing little amigurumi/crochet dolls. I asked for a little Ryo Hazuki to sit on my desk and keep me company.

(Fun fact: The woman behind Baboo Crafts is the wife of one of the guys at Insert Coin Clothing. He drew the tiger on little Ryo's jacket, as well as the one on the hoodies and t-shirts that many of us bought.)

Ryo's eyes up top looks crazy, man, haha. Great stuff, though! Would you consider making some of these to use as future tweetathon prizes?  I keep meaning to get into the perler bead scene. I always wanted to make a screenshot of the first Metal Gear right at the beginning with the guard saying I'm asleep! Then hang it over my bed.

Would you include the typo too just for good measure?

I would happily donate an individual character pic as a prize. Not the complete one though, as the beads to make it will cost over £50 ($85.60), hence why I haven't done it yet.

But, I mean, I did just give this away as a prize on my store's Facebook page, so I'm sure I can do something. :)

Ryo doesn't need a mouth. He can get by with just nodding at people. Not like he's very communicative anyway, hahaa.

My son was playing with it this morning, and was calling it "little fat boy", which made me laugh. Then I bitch-slapped him for making fun of my Ryo!
