Are you ready for August 3rd?

Now that Shenmue III has been successfully Kickstarted by Yu Suzuki and his legions of fans, all eyes are on Sega, owners of the most conspicuous two games to never receive the HD re-release treatment.

Suzuki and his fans want Shenmue 1 & 2 to be made available for newcomers to experience before the crowdfunded sequel is released, and so that is our goal moving forward with the monthly Tweetathon.

#SaveShenmue now has a sharper focus, becoming #SaveShenmueHD until Sega provides a legal, modern day alternative to emulation and wiring up dusty old consoles bought second-hand.

Together we have achieved the impossible, but there is one thing left to accomplish ahead of Shenmue's triumphant return. So please ensure your AutoTweet is activated with a relevant message at TeamYu.net/HD, and prepare for a full day of tweeting next Monday when Team Yu needs YOU to spread the word and be heard on the 3rd!

This Monday the traditional Shenmue Tweetathon officially adopts its new hashtag, ‪#‎SaveShenmueHD‬, in a bid to fulfil the wishes of Yu Suzuki and all the fans who want to see Shenmue 1 & 2 re-released in time for Shenmue 3's arrival.

The primary objective of the ‪#‎SaveShenmue‬ campaign has been realized, and no one can fail to be satisfied with the knowledge that Shenmue 3 is at last a reality. There are, however, some conspicuous loose ends to be tied up by those of us not quite ready to rest on our laurels.

The success of Shenmue 3 at launch will be greatly influenced by how many gamers get to experience the first two entries in the series between now and then. People who've never played Shenmue are now keener than ever to see what all the fuss is about, but filling this gap in their collections means either fiddling with an emulator on their PC or trawling eBay for old consoles and discs in reliable condition and at a reasonable price.

Bringing Shenmue 1 & 2 officially onto current platforms not only makes perfect sense for Sega, who ought to strike while the iron's hot amidst a fever of Shenmue hype, but it's the next logical step for all of us as fans. Preserving the original chapters of Yu Suzuki's magnum opus gives the game its rightful place as a modern classic, and opens the door for new fans to easily discover the series and secure its future beyond Shenmue 3.

So this Monday, please join us in tweeting and retweeting the hashtag #SaveShenmueHD during a 24-hour global event. It's always a fun and rewarding experience to take part in, with Shenmue fans proving every month why they're the greatest fans in the gaming world. See TeamYu.net/HD  to increase your involvement, and remember: Team Yu needs YOU to spread the word and be heard on the 3rd!

The first ever #SaveShenmueHD Tweetathon is in the books, and with great relief we can say it looked a lot like every previous incarnation of the event.

We'll admit it, we were concerned - we didn't know how well the new hashtag would take hold, or how many people still had the spirit to fight on when the main battle was won. But as you always do, you proved the doubters wrong. Word spread with ease and August 3rd was awash with demand to re-release the games that started it all.

We can't begin to say how proud we are of the Shenmue fanbase for its commitment to see this through until every last wrong has been righted, every loose thread sewn up. How easy it would be to sit back and relax now that Shenmue III has been confirmed. To let others worry about restoring the original games for new fans. We're alright, Jack - we've already played them.

But a new generation awaits, who have yet to experience the magic of Shenmue 1 & 2 that has captivated and enchanted so many fans at such a deep, unshakeable level that even fourteen years later, Shenmue was able to be saved.

And if those of us who understand the importance of these unique titles don't do everything in our power to make them accessible to new players, then who will?

Shenmue III was made possible by a groundswell of public support, and with your continued help, the same irresistable force will find a crack in the immovable object known as Sega. Shenmue will be reborn on modern platforms and a new audience will discover what we've all known for a decade and a half.

That the story NEEDED to go on.

Thank you so much for your participation and we look forward to seeing you out there again on September 3rd, securing Shenmue's future by sharing and celebrating its past.

A prophecy from the Book of AGES, on SEGA Genesis 3:1-3:

«And SEGA said, "Let there be Shenmue 1 & 2 HD," and there was Shenmue 1 & 2 HD.

SEGA saw that Shenmue 1 & 2 HD was good, and they called Shenmue 1 & 2 HD "profit."

And there were remasters, and there were ports--the third day.
