March 3rd Shenmue challenge
« on: February 21, 2015, 08:10:35 PM »

Have you taken the challenge yet?

Two weeks ago we celebrated 3 strong years of the monthly Tweetathon campaigning for Shenmue's revival.

In the process, we challenged each of you to recruit 3 friends for next month's event on March 3rd.

That turbulant Tuesday is drawing closer, so if you haven't yet sprung to action, make your move today!

All your friends need to do is either tweet the hashtag #SaveShenmue on March 3rd, or even better, sign up for the AutoTweet for maximum support with absolute minimum effort.

If they're Shenmue fans, the campaign sells itself. We all want Yu Suzuki's epic saga to reach its conclusion. How far will Ryo Hazuki go for revenge? Will the dragon and phoenix mirrors unleash an ancient army at Lan Di's command? Will Xiuying be reunited with her wayward brother? Will Nozomi's heart ever heal?

For those who've never experienced Shenmue, the campaign is important even beyond the chance to discover the series on modern platforms. The implications of our goal reach far and wide across the gaming industry. The fate of Shenmue is understood by many to be the ultimate injustice toward gamers by those with the power to nix or approve a sequel. If consumers unite to make Shenmue III a reality, then suddenly anything is possible. Shenmue is symbolic for all gamers who ever felt shafted or overlooked by a soulless publisher, and its triumphant return will send a message far beyond Sega's once-impenetrable walls.

So take the challenge today, and on March 3rd we will stand shoulder to shoulder in the largest regular social media event in all of gaming. Whether you've played it before or don't have a clue, Team Yu needs YOU to #SaveShenmue!

An enormous THANK YOU to everyone who turned out for the #SaveShenmue Tweetathon yesterday, demonstrating the demand for Shenmue for the whole world to see.

We asked you to invite your friends, and we saw plenty of newcomers. We asked you to put your best foot forward, and we saw some amazingly creative content. And we asked you to spread the word and be heard on the 3rd, and as always, you didn't let us down.

While all of this was taking place, the Game Developers Conference had gotten underway in San Francisco. At last year's GDC you'll remember Yu Suzuki spoke at length about the creation of Shenmue for a live audience at the venue and watching online. And this year he's in town again, photographed with a fan the night before the Tweetathon.

There's no Shenmue event planned for the conference this time, but Suzuki never misses an opportunity to network on his search for a funding partner to enable the sequel we all want to see.

With Sega looking less likely than ever before to get behind the project, it's going to take a hero to #SaveShenmue and that's what we aim to find - on the highest of plateaus or in the darkest of shadows, they are out there.

But heroes come in all shapes and sizes, and whether Yu encounters one on his travels or a console giant steps in to fund an exclusive, we know we can count on the tireless heroes amongst you to keep the dream alive long enough for that to happen.

Every month, without neglect, to keep tweeting...
