how about a shenmue Tweetahon Twice a month?
would it work? of course it would.

We'd do a Tweetathon every day if we thought it would catch on, but the once a month routine was chosen with a few factors in mind.

Firstly, the 3rd is an easy date to remember for all Shenmue fans. It's simple to promote - three is the magic number for this series, as we all want that elusive third game. And if you ask people to remember two dates, chances are they'll instantly forget both.

Secondly, the primary aim of this campaign more than any other is to mobilize the casual fans, those on the fringe, the periphery, who don't consider themselves part of the "Shenmue community" but don't mind tweeting a simple hashtag once a month. We've always been very mindful of not asking too much of these people, as their attention spans are shorter than those who live and breathe Shenmue, and their dedication to the cause is a fragile thing not to be tried unnecessarily.

And thirdly, while we all hope that the Tweetathon will convert witnesses into new supporters, it's understandable that many of each participants' followers don't care about Shenmue and never will. An avalanche of #SaveShenmue tweets in their news feed once a month is just about tolerable, but every two weeks would have a lot of them reaching for the unfollow button. Of course the more hardcore tweeters don't care if they lose followers, but we have to protect our casuals from any backlash that might discourage them from taking part in future.

I can imagine, of course, that this "kid gloves" approach might frustrate some eager fans who want to go all out, guns blazing, putting the Shenmue army to work day and night. But it's a careful balance we have to strike if we want that army to still be there when we need them most. As long as they check in on the 3rd of each month, we know they're still there... and so does Sega.

Don't let that stop you from tweeting the hashtag at random, Guppy. Random tweets certainly have their place, too.
