It is real time, but from what I recall, you don't really control you're characters like you would in an action game or something. It's more like you select a course action for your character to follow and then sort of straddle around the enemy while your character keeps automactically performing that course of action, and it's all in real time.

A bit like World of Warcraft then?

I've not played Warcraft but it's kind of how I imagine that game would play, yeah. But there's probably a lot more to it than that, as I seem to recall a lot of people lauding FF12's combat at the time. For me it was never really much better than the turn based battles, in fact I found it a kind off annoying half way house. More stressful than turn based battles and less satisfying than a proper action game. The game is still ace though, I really did enjoy it's world.

a•part•ment
"It’s common to make a game “fun,” but we didn’t intend for a•part•ment to be action-packed and skill-based."

Read (by clicking the following link) why I want to play it: Turning Feelings Into Mechanics — The narrative design of Apartment: A Separated Place

It will be released at Spring 2016 on Steam.

Update: deleted it from my list, because: http://teamyu.net/Shenmue.III/topic,160.msg2022.html#msg2022

I gotta be honest, Giorgio, that game looks pretentious as hell.

You may be right; remain to be seen in the final execution. However, the concept is interesting, and one that I would like to see more in the gaming industry. That said, I indeed don't like the over-dramatic tone and ultra-depressing mood that in some "vignettes" will try to pass on the players. I greatly prefer more bright and hopeful experiences. Unless if the "negative" ones touch you in some way that they don't make you sad/depressed, but positively heartily touched by what is happening, while a light of hope can be seen and it's possible to reach it, leading and ending in a sense of accomplishment of acquiring good feelings/emotions (make your happiness flourish) in your psyche by that.

I've been playing it over the weekend and I'm a little bit in love with it. A great tonic for the anger and stress I've been feeling lately.

And definitely a must-buy for parents of kids aged under 12, if you want them to grow up not to be assholes.

I have Doki Doki Universe, but only played it for about 15 minutes. It's from PS+ though, and my account expired. :/

I played the demo; it wasn't bad seeing it, but the execution was not interesting (the fluidity of the visuals/events was lethargic and disconnected). It wasn't what I was expecting.

Murdered: Soul Suspect - Steam
It's a detective themed title and it seems interesting.

Her Story - Steam
A detective type interactive movie, with a challenge to decipher the clues and hints to unravel the real suspect.

I've heard a little bit of something about that. Sounds interesting. I'll certainly consider giving it a second glance when it hits the shelves. :P

Animal Crossing series

It seems like the cartoon-y version of Shenmue.

Shenmue: a realistic version of Animal Crossing.

If that doesn't sell it to a new generation of gamers I don't know what will.

That sounds like a clever way to market it. Hopefully, the new partners (including SONY) will have a more open mind and be in tune with the essence of the creation their dealing with, unlike SEGA's nitwittedly misleading established set of marketing attitudes (for Shenmue) back in the days.

Hacknet (Steam)

Seems really interesting (to do that through fiction; at least if you are engaged with programming and/or hacking; it's semi-realistic, though, which serves mostly for the entertainment).
