Shenmue & nullDC - Teething troubles
« on: August 31, 2014, 04:47:09 PM »
So, I've finally decided to grab the Shenmue-optimised version of nullDC and add it to my copy of RomStation. However, I keep getting an error code when trying to start the emulator, either through RomStation or by starting the executable directly. It's one of those standard 0x000007b error codes.

Before that, it was a missing DLL file, which I downloaded and copied to both my System32 folder (which did nothing) and my nullDC file path (which changed the error code to the one above).

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I really want to start grabbing some HD screenshots of the in-game locations to use on my Shenmuenopoly board. Some advice on the issue from one of you tech-wizards would really be appreciated. :D

Let us know if that sorts it out, James. If not, I'll try asking around to see what's up.

Both tell me I already have newer or equivalent versions running. :/

Oh, and the standard nullDC works. It's the Shenmue-optimised version I'm having trouble with...

Is it possible to play right through Shenmue I and II without issue on nullDC? Would love to have an HD experience! :) Although I read that you can't play the arcade games.

I remember feeling like I was actually in an arcade whilst playing Shenmue. I'd get a thought of "I should really get going. I have important things to attend to.... just one more game" :)

It is possible, provided you play the PAL version of both games.

Even without the optimized version of nullDC?

Even without the optimized version of nullDC?
Indeed. (Which version of nullDC you use has nothing to do with that. The optimized version just fixed a bug when playing Shenmue II, whatever the region.)  Have fun/ (full reactive eyes) entertainment!

Okay, cool. That's great! I'm not sure which region Roms I have. I'll have to check. Is it possible to play the game off of the discs?

Does anyone know if it's possible to play the games using the original GD rom discs and nullDC? Guess I should just try :)

It is not possible. NullDC can only load image files: .cdi, .mds, .nrg, .gdi, .chd.

To play the games from the original GD-R discs you own, you have to dump their contents through a special procedure, like, to obtain among others the GDI file.

P.S.: I wasn't really sure before with "Is it possible to play the game off of the discs?", but now the question is more clearer.
