An off-topic section?
« on: August 05, 2014, 06:05:08 PM »
This is a Shenmue forum. We're all here because of that game. But, inevitably, there are gonna be non-Shenmue threads that pop up now and then (like this one). Now, while I do believe that this site is better suited for Shenmue discussions, I'm thinking that an off-topic section might be an idea.

However, if there were, you could guarantee spamming of that section for ¥. So, if there was, I think that posts in that section should not earn anything. That way, people would be encouraged to post more about Shenmue than other subjects.

It's just a thought. I dunno if you'd go for the idea or not, but I figured it would help keep the focus on Shenmue.

It's been a conscious decision to not have an Off Topic section, but nothing is off the table for future consideration.

Some threads might seem off topic but as long as their purpose is loosely Shenmue-related they're fine. The example given above is a topic that provides an opportunity to discover games that are commonly enjoyed by Shenmue fans, which may produce relevant conclusions. A thread about favorite sports teams or knitting patterns, not so much... unless it's Nozomi's sweater.

For now at least, anything that really can't be justified as having relevance to Shenmue fans in particular should be posted on one of the many general forums around the web.

I didn't mean to single that post out; it was just something I'd been thinking about for a while. And while I see your point about posting non-Shenmue stuff on another forum, I was actually wanting to talk about non-Shenmue stuff to my fellow Shenmue fans. If you know what I mean. Like, try to get to know some of you guys better.

There's been a couple of times where I've started making a new thread, and then cancelled it because it wasn't Shenmue-related. Topics such as what gaming platforms we play, and what gamertags/usernames we use on each.

I guess I'll have to start adding Shenmue into the subject matter. "What's your favourite band... to listen to as you play Shenmue?" or "What's your favourite film... to watch after playing Shenmue." :P

So a question like "If Ryo Hazuki was a Championship football season ticket holder, do you think he'd think Cardiff City had a good chance of going straight back up with the addition of a central defender to the squad?" would be frowned upon? haha

:D YAY!

Why is that, then?

Also, you know I'm gonna go on a thread-starting spree. :D

Its cool, especially for chatting about other games. I've been a shenmue fan before the game even came out as im sure many of us were...but It would be beyond depressing if I tortured myself by playing the same 2 games over and over for over a decade.

Imagine you reached the brink of insanity over your favorite movie Kill Bill and you're just waiting for vol 3. Every morning you wake up, do your thing, go to work, get home, watch both movies 2 times, shower, go to sleep and repeat. On your day off you watch them 4 times each.
