Campaign News / Happy anniversary, Sega...
« on: September 13, 2014, 11:59:48 PM »

It's been a week of anniversaries for Sega, with the Dreamcast launching 15 years ago in North America, and Shenmue II releasing 13 years ago in Japan. And after all this time, the demand for Shenmue III persists.

Proving itself a far cry from the company that won many gamers' hearts in the 1990s, the Sega of today continues to shove its fingers in its ears when it comes to the ongoing #SaveShenmue campaign, in which abandoned customers appeal for an ending to the series that was left on a cliffhanger in September 2001.

Meanwhile, the director and chief producer of Namco's Tekken series, Katsuhiro Harada, has addressed pleas from Xenosaga fans for an HD collection of the company's role-playing franchise. In a post shared via Twitter (, Harada points out that proving there's a market for Xenosaga requires messages from lots of different people, not lots of messages from the same few people.

This is why we keep stressing the importance of SPREADING THE WORD about the #SaveShenmue Tweetathon, getting more people involved instead of relying on the same fans continually spamming the powers that be. If the targets of these messages keep seeing the same people tweeting them again and again, it becomes harder for them to appreciate the number of unique tweeters inbetween. They may come away with the impression that it's just the same small group flooding their @mentions list, even if that's not the case.

Harada (who shares a mutual respect with Shenmue and Virtua Fighter creator Yu Suzuki: should be applauded for doing what Sega never has, by actually acknowledging the eagerness of fans for a product that remains missing from release schedules. Not everyone may like the picture he paints of the uphill struggle facing those who desire a Xenosaga HD collection, but his advice is constructive, encouraging, and most of all refreshing. And in the absence of any official word from Sega, it is also the most reliable indication of what is required from Shenmue fans to get our own favorite series onto modern gaming formats.

So please take this timely inspiration from one of Yu Suzuki's peers as guidance on how to strengthen our campaign. Don't just wait until the 3rd of each month and then tweet the living hell out of Sega and the console makers. Use this time inbetween those events to venture forth and introduce other gamers to the cause, so that together your tweets will speak louder than the same quantity from one person. Spread the word, and be heard on the 3rd.

Happy anniversary, Sega. May we, the fans, never have to mourn another.

Campaign News / Insert Coin Chawan Sign Contest
« on: August 17, 2014, 04:23:51 PM »

It's perhaps the ultimate Shenmue merchandise, and on September 3rd the official Ryo Hazuki replica jacket - soon to be available to pre-order from Insert Coin Clothing - will become a lot more affordable to three lucky participants in the #SaveShenmue Tweetathon!

Fans are invited to make chawan signs (the four cup arrangement used as a discreet signal in Shenmue II) and post photos on Twitter during our monthly campaign event that Wednesday, using the hashtag #SaveShenmue.

The chawan sign pictured in the most interesting location will win a £20 discount code (approximately $33 at time of writing) while two others will be randomly selected for a £10 discount code each (approximately $16), all valid against the purchase of a brand new replica jacket.

To be eligible to win you must also activate your AutoTweet before the winners are selected the following Saturday, September 6th. These are real Shenmue prizes and we all want to see them going to real fans who support the cause!

Thank you to everyone for continuing to make the #SaveShenmue Tweetathon a hive of activity in the pursuit of Shenmue III. It's your passion for this franchise that encourages the likes of Insert Coin to invest in products like this jacket, and thanks to their generosity in this contest, you could soon find it even easier to wear that passion on your sleeve...

Campaign News / August 3rd Tweetathon
« on: July 29, 2014, 05:05:02 AM »

Tranquility. Serenity. Inner peace. None of these things describe the #SaveShenmue Tweetathon, the social media frenzy that lights up Twitter every 3rd of the month. But if Ryo Hazuki was standing over the forests and waterfalls of Guilin, contemplating this Sunday's event with his mind as clear as a polished mirror, he would be focused on the most efficient and reliable method of supporting this international uprising: the AutoTweet.

By signing into with your Twitter account and activating your AutoTweet, you will ensure your participation in every monthly Tweetathon for the duration of the campaign - or until you decide to switch it off. You're in control. But it's the easiest way to automatically tweet your personalized message along with every other supporter, every month without fail, with no repeat sign-ups required.

While you're stopping by, you might also check out the other unique features of, such as the virtual kitten that relies on you, the entire Shenmue community, for food. Or how about the capsule toys that await collection in their machines? On which note, to mark the August 3rd #SaveShenmue Tweetathon, we're pleased to announce that capsule toy trading will open for the first time this weekend, allowing fans to swap any duplicate toys with each other. Got two Sonics but really want an Alex Kidd? Then get trading!

But, like Ryo, just don't forget what's most important: activate your AutoTweet today. As diverting as capsule toys may be, as a fanbase we have a job to do this Sunday. If we ever want Shenmue III to bring us our inner peace, then no matter how much virtual yen we have on the site, we can't afford to fiddle while Rome burns...

Campaign News / July 3rd Tweetathon & Contest
« on: July 05, 2014, 07:11:16 AM »
A huge, giant, Shenmue-sized thanks to everyone who took part in the #SaveShenmue Tweetathon yesterday! As always, it was damn near impossible for us to keep up with the constant rush of activity, and that's exactly how we like it. More insanity, more chaos, more strength of feeling from a fanbase that will not go quietly into the night.

The results of the contest for signed photos from Lisle Wilkerson (voice actress for Joy, Xiuying and Yuan in Shenmue II) will be announced in the coming days on the newly relaunched, where you must be registered by Saturday to qualify. As previously detailed, the three prizes will be awarded to those who contributed to the July 3rd Tweetathon with the most creative tweet and the most on-point tweet, as well as a tweeter chosen completely at random. Everyone has a chance - as long as you register at!

The site went fully live on Tuesday, and allows you to sign in with your Twitter account, making it almost an extension of Twitter itself with more room for discussion. But where it certainly expands on the scope of Twitter is the ability to collect capsule toys and care for a virtual kitten!

Additionally, and crucially, the new site features a custom built AutoTweet function, allowing for greater use of the THUNDEROUS mass simultaneous posting technique we're all used to. It's quick and easy to enable after signing in at - do it now and then forget about it, job done.

The next event of course is set for August 3rd, which gives you all plenty of time to figure out how you're going to spread the word like you never have before. Things are heating up and thanks to your efforts they will only get hotter... Team Yu needs YOU to #SaveShenmue!
