Shenmue Chat / Re: Earning Yen - Limit or Bug?
« on: September 18, 2014, 03:52:56 AM »
When we added new code to prevent yen being awarded for double-posts, it also accidentally prevented yen being awarded for new topics. This has hopefully now been resolved, but do make sure to tell us if it's not still working as expected.

On a side note, new topics are now worth ¥75. :)

Shenmue Chat / Notebook!
« on: September 08, 2014, 12:28:23 AM »
You'll notice a new Notebook item in the main menu at the top of the page, between Profile and My Messages. Clicking this will pop up your own personal notebook to store any scribblings you might need to remember, just like Ryo in the game.

What had seemed like a simple thing to install ended up requiring a stupendous number of changes to the database and website files, so we hope it proves useful and worthwhile!

Shenmue Chat / Vote for the kitten's name!
« on: September 06, 2014, 10:51:58 PM »
What's in a name?

Just as the whole community is jointly responsible for looking after the orphaned kitten, so too is everyone responsible for choosing her name.

Please vote for one of the options above, and feel free to change your vote at any time. The most popular name at any moment will be displayed on the kitten's page and above her cardboard box on the front page.

In the event of a draw, the name will default to "Kitten".

Choose wisely!

We finally have a workaround for this. :)

Unfortunately the person who developed the "sign in with Twitter" feature for this type of forum is no longer providing support for it, so we were left with an apparent bug in the code that prevented some users from signing in. But while it remains a mystery as to why those users are affected, and they will seemingly never be able to sign in via Twitter, we can now at least allow them to sign in with a password.

New users will find that when registering an account, you are asked to choose a password. This will allow you to sign in "the old fashioned way" if you're unfortunate enough to be affected by the bug. You'll know if you've been affected because the registration page will just reload whenever you submit your details, giving the impression that it hasn't worked. But rest assured, your account has been created and your password is stored, ready for you to use if you can't sign in via Twitter.

Existing members who do not yet have a password will receive an email from us ([email protected]) this weekend supplying you with a temporary password, which we encourage you to change in your account settings at your earliest convenience. If you've been one of the unlucky ones so far, then this will finally allow you to sign in for the first time! Otherwise, if you've always been able to sign in via Twitter, this will simply provide an alternative method in case you prefer it. So look out for that email coming your way soon.

We can only apologize for any frustration caused by these teething troubles, and thank you for your patience while we have torn our hair out to resolve them. A special thanks to SpaceDaiGun for helping us investigate the problem and test our numerous failed solutions until we finally got around it. He now has a winning can in his inventory for his efforts. :)

It's been a conscious decision to not have an Off Topic section, but nothing is off the table for future consideration.

Some threads might seem off topic but as long as their purpose is loosely Shenmue-related they're fine. The example given above is a topic that provides an opportunity to discover games that are commonly enjoyed by Shenmue fans, which may produce relevant conclusions. A thread about favorite sports teams or knitting patterns, not so much... unless it's Nozomi's sweater.

For now at least, anything that really can't be justified as having relevance to Shenmue fans in particular should be posted on one of the many general forums around the web.

Some of you are encountering problems signing up to the site, unable to move past the registration screen. This only seems to be affecting a minority but for some reason it is persistant for those unfortunate people.

We have been desperately looking into the cause of this peculiar bug and apologize for the inconvenience. We appreciate the support of everyone who makes the decision to sign up, and we want to assure you that we have your email addresses and will let you know as soon as the problem has been resolved.

Thank you for your patience and please do participate in the Tweetathon today on Twitter with the hashtag #SaveShenmue!

And very welcome it is too. :)

We'll be playing around with the Campaign Intro later in the week, and promoting the AutoTweet within that section is a definite priority.

Thanks for supporting! Something like that will be added soon, but because your AutoTweet doesn't need to be updated/redone every month the share button will probably only get used once by most people anyway. In the meantime, and any other time you feel like promoting the campaign, why not compose your own tweet or use the general button on the front page?

The Tomato Convenience Store will soon have a use for your winning cans.

It will be around the same time as the old Thunderclap tweets, which is evening US time/late night UK time.

We'll be doing more to make the AutoTweet feature stand out on the site in the next couple weeks, but right now it's difficult to make the updates that we'd like to due to very limited web access. Please bear with us! :)

Shenmue Chat / Re: Capsule Trade Agreements and Strategies
« on: July 08, 2014, 08:17:42 PM »
Just to give an idea of what to expect when trading opens, it will work by making an open request for a specific toy that you want. Anybody with a duplicate of that toy can then grant your request, provided you have a duplicate of a toy they don't have, so that a trade can take place.

In short, you won't need to approach specific people to initiate a trade. You'll be able to put out a request and let a suitable person come to you.

Now hopefully the Tomato bug has been exterminated. But again, let us know if you still encounter problems.
