Shenmue Chat / Shenmue 3D Printing
« on: February 14, 2016, 05:51:48 AM »
I am going to be getting my hands on a 3D printer soon, and I was just wondering if anyone had any cool Shenmue-related stuff that I could print? Obvious ones that come to mind would be the mirrors, the handguard, or other in-game items. What I would really like to do is a 3D bust of Ryo, and perhaps other characters. Since I am new to the realm of 3D sculpting, I thought I would ask if any of you are familiar with the process.

Shenmue Chat / Shenmue 500k PS4 community
« on: September 05, 2015, 07:47:07 PM »
I have it on very good authority that there has been created a 500k community using the PS4's new feature found in the new firmware 3.00 beta. Just so you know. Can't say any more. NDA. *whistles*

Shenmue Chat / Capsule Toys/Inventory
« on: June 23, 2015, 12:21:30 AM »
Are these features being removed due to lack of use? Because they've disappeared! I've resorted to using the URLs to get in and buy more toys. I'd be very sad to see them go.

Shenmue Chat / Pre-loaded Tweets
« on: June 22, 2015, 08:17:18 PM »
Does anyone know of a service where I can pre-load tweets for July 3rd? I'm going to be away, with no internet, for the whole day. So, if possible, I want to pre-load 2 dozen tweets, and set it to tweet one every hour.

Shenmue Chat / Finally getting around to my bead art...
« on: June 20, 2015, 06:59:14 PM »

I livestreamed this morning. This is what I made. I need to order more black beads, but I'm finally getting around making the full piece. :D

Shenmue Chat / Streaming idea
« on: June 19, 2015, 08:32:01 PM »
So, with Shenmue being talked about worldwide after shattering previous Kickstarter records, it's pretty obvious that now is the time to educate people on these games that shaped the video game landscape of today without getting recognised for it. Why, just the other day a friend of mine asked me to stream Shenmue for him so he can see what the big deal is.

It got me thinking, what if we had a Team Yu/Shenmue 500k Twitch channel? It could feature different gamers playing different versions of Shenmue, while offering up commentaries on why the series means so much to them. Not only that, but we could stream discussions between members and other such activities.

I'd be happy to contribute to such a project, as I can quite easily hook up my Dreamcast to my streaming setup (using VGA box & HDMI converter) in order to stream gameplay from original hardware. Maybe another streamer could showcase available mods. Or even, rather than streaming, make a series of videos for YouTube. I know the community is knowledgeable enough that we could probably make 'Did You Know Gaming'-style videos.

I know it would probably take a lot of work to set up, but I'm sure there are fans who would happily... take the gamble. Geddit? The gamble? Because, you know? The... oh, whatever. Just let me know. :P

Off Topic Chat / Deleted my Facebook. Here's why.
« on: June 18, 2015, 05:35:22 AM »
Hey all. I just wanted to let you know that all is well. After a mini-meltdown this afternoon, I decided to delete my Facebook account. There are several reasons behind this, and it is something that I've been contemplating for a while. I'll explain a little of why.

I was getting straight-up pissed off with those who were posting in the 500k group whiny statuses about being screwed by Sony, or that after 14 years of waiting we shouldn't have to pledge via Kickstarter. Ordinarily, this wouldn't bother me. However, around 12 hours prior to Shenmue III being announced, I was in the hospital holding the hand of my dear wife, distraught at the thought that we had lost our baby. Eventually we found out everything was okay, but for the 6 hours between my wife starting bleeding heavily and having an ultrasound to check on the baby, we thought our baby was dead.

Something like that kinda changes your perspective a little. And I realised that, while I am absolutely over the moon that Shenmue III is finally a reality, and I am so very proud of all that we have accomplished as a community, I just can't stand seeing people piss and moan over a video game.

I don't want to quit the community. I'm not planning on leaving the forum. My Shenmue bead art and Shenmuenopoly projects are still going ahead (when I find time). But I just need less drama on my feed, lol. Therefore I've deleted my Facebook profile and started a new, private profile (since I need a profile to manage my 1upbeads page) to which I am only adding close family and friends.

I hope you can understand. I didn't want anyone to think I was just throwing my rattle from the buggy or anything. When I've previously talked about emotional rollercoasters, I hope you can understand. If anyone still wants to contact me for any reason, I'm still here... but you can also add me on Steam (jameswalker85), PSN (jameswalker85), Skype (jameswalker85) or Twitter (HazukiSensei). Curse the bugger who got jameswalker85 on Twitter. Grrrr.

Thank you, and I hope I haven't put a dampener on everyone's mood.

So... we gonna add them or not? :P

Shenmue Chat / I just bought a JXD!
« on: May 09, 2015, 06:26:08 PM »
So, I just ordered a JXD s7800b tablet (managed to convince the wife; a victory in itself). I'm in need of a tablet anyway, and I like what this one is capable of: emulation!

I've been looking on Youtube at experiences with the Dreamcast emulation, and found this promising video:

When it arrives, I'll share some video (ordering a HDMI cable for it too) and let you know how it plays. The tablet also allows you to assign physical buttons to Android games, so I'll be mapping them to Excite QTA2, and I'll share that too.

Shenmue Chat / Reviving some projects
« on: April 29, 2015, 03:55:43 PM »
As well as reviving my Shenmuenopoly project, I've also decided to restart my Shenmue bead picture project. But this time, I plan to use midi beads as opposed to mini beads.

I really liked how the mini beads looked, and the size was also really good. Unfortunately, it must have been too big for those beads. As soon as I started ironing, the beads that fused together started to curl up, lifting away from the unfused beads. Other beads stuck to the paper, without fusing properly to each other.

So, I'm revisiting the project. The one I am making is for me. If anyone likes the finished project so much that they want one themselves, let me know.

I'm also planning a second one. You see, all the characters in the collage are Shenmue II. So... I'm gonna try and make a Shenmue I montage. I'm thinking Ryo, Nozomi, Goro, Fuku-san, Gui Zhang and Master Chen. But, of course, it will mean a lot of work designing them myself as I haven't seen VMU images of those characters.

Anyhoo, thought I'd share (I wanted more yen, too).

Shenmue Chat / Making a #SaveShenmue bead art video + giveaway
« on: November 04, 2014, 09:00:32 PM »
You may know I love Shenmue (as evidenced by my being here). You may know I make bead art. You may know I make YouTube videos (like this one):

Put them all together, and what do you have? I'm making a Shenmue bead art video! I just ordered a whopping 84,000 mini beads (1/4 the size of regular fuse beads), and made sure to order enough of each colour required to make three of these:

I'm planning on making one for myself, which I will record and upload to YouTube on December 3rd. As for the other two, well... ideally I'd like to sell one (since the beads cost a lot to order), and the other I plan to give away as part of December's tweetathon.

Let me know if you are interested in buying one. I'm always willing to make more if demand is high enough.

Also, if anyone has any other ideas for Shenmue-themed bead art, feel free to let me know.

Shenmue Chat / What Would You Do... For a New Shenmue?
« on: November 02, 2014, 08:40:51 PM »
I've been thinking about getting a new laptop recently (stay with me, it's going somewhere). My PC has a poor graphics card and a slow processor with an outdated socket. I can't afford to upgrade my computer... but I could get a laptop on credit.

I found one. Core i7, 1TB HDD, 4GB dedicated GPU, 8GB RAM, full HD... It's nice. Very nice. And I was about to order it. It was in the basket, and I was going through the checkout process. I was just one click away from it being mine.

And I stopped. I couldn't go through with it. Because it would take my credit limit to the maximum amount. And if I did do that... how would I afford a PS4 if/when Shenmue HD/3 is announced for it?

I honestly gave up the laptop for a small possibility of being able to play Shenmue on PS4 some day.

And now I'm thinking about it non-stop. What else would I willingly sacrifice for a new Shenmue? And what would you give up?

Off Topic Chat / Gaming IDs
« on: October 30, 2014, 06:42:09 PM »
Just thought it might be an idea to list our various gaming IDs for different formats, since there are so many.

PSN (PS4/PS3/Vita): jameswalker85
Wii U: jameswalker85
Steam: jameswalker85
RetroAchievements: jameswalker85

I know the wide variety and irrelevance of my usernames might throw some people, but deal with it. :P

Off Topic Chat / What are you playing?
« on: October 07, 2014, 05:28:00 AM »
I thought it would be cool to have a thread where you can say what games you're playing now. This way, we can maybe discover new games, reminisce about classics, and learn more about the tastes of our Shenmue brethren.

Currently, I'm playing Hyrule Warriors and loving it. And once I've finished it, I want to finish my playthrough of Zelda: Wind Waker HD before starting a Shenmue stream.

Shenmue Chat / Shenmue Stream Ideas
« on: September 28, 2014, 12:08:18 AM »
I'm wanting to stream Shenmue again. But I don't just want to do a standard "I'm gonna play this game, and you guys can watch" thing. I'm trying to come up with ideas to make it unique. If you guys can suggest anything to help, I would be most appreciative.
